Insulation

Product & Services

Choosing the right insulation is one of the highest-return improvements a homeowner can make, quietly lowering energy bills every month while making rooms more comfortable in every season. Since 2015, The Home Insulators has been a family-owned company serving Westchester and Rockland County in New York and Bergen County in New Jersey, and we install the full range of insulation systems so your home gets the right material in the right place.

The Insulation Materials We Install

No single product is best for every part of a house. Here is how the options we work with actually perform, so you can understand what your installer is recommending and why.

Closed-Cell Spray Foam

Closed-cell spray foam is the highest-performing insulation we offer. It delivers roughly R-6 to R-7 per inch — our product measures about R-6.88 per inch — which means it reaches a high R-value in a thinner layer than any other option. Because it cures into a rigid, dense material, it also acts as both an air barrier and a vapor barrier, blocking drafts and moisture in the same step. That makes it the go-to choice for rim joists, crawl spaces, cathedral ceilings, and other tight or moisture-prone areas.

Open-Cell Spray Foam

Open-cell foam is a softer, more breathable foam at about R-3.5 to R-3.8 per inch. It expands more, fills irregular cavities well, and costs less than closed-cell, which makes it a strong value for interior walls and attics where a vapor barrier is not required. It is also an excellent sound dampener between rooms and floors.

Blown-In Insulation

Blown-in insulation is loose fill installed with a hose, letting us build a thick, even blanket across an attic floor and work it into the odd corners and gaps that batts leave uncovered. It is one of the most cost-effective ways to bring an under-insulated attic up to modern standards, often in a single afternoon.

Fiberglass Batt and Rigid Board

Fiberglass batts deliver about R-3 to R-4 per inch and remain a reliable, economical choice for open wall cavities, floors, and standard-framed spaces. Rigid foam board adds a continuous layer of insulation over framing, basement walls, or beneath roofing, reducing the thermal bridging that lets heat escape straight through the studs. We often combine materials — for example, rigid board over batts — to get the best result for a specific assembly.

Where Insulation Works Hardest in Your Home

Heat always moves toward cold, so the biggest savings usually come from the top and bottom of the house. The attic is the number-one priority in most homes we visit: warm air rises and escapes through the ceiling, so a well-insulated, air-sealed attic pays back faster than almost anything else. Other high-impact areas include:

  • Rim joists and basement walls, a common source of cold floors and drafts
  • Crawl spaces, where moisture and heat loss often go hand in hand
  • Exterior and knee walls, especially in older homes with little or no existing insulation
  • Cathedral ceilings and bonus rooms above garages that never seem to hold temperature

Air Sealing, Weatherization, and What to Expect

Insulation slows heat transfer, but it does not stop air from leaking through the countless gaps around wiring, plumbing, and framing. That is why air sealing and weatherization are part of a complete job. By sealing those hidden leaks before or alongside insulating, we let the insulation perform the way it is rated to — a step that is easy to skip and one of the most common reasons a home still feels drafty after work is done.

A typical project starts with a walkthrough and a plan you approve up front. On installation day, our crew protects your floors and belongings, completes the work, and cleans the site before leaving. Most homes are finished in a day, and many homeowners notice steadier temperatures and quieter rooms almost immediately, with the savings showing up on the bills that follow.

Every home is different, which is why we start with a free energy audit to pinpoint exactly where your home is losing energy and recommend only what will genuinely help — no pressure, no upselling. Homeowners across our service area typically save 20 percent or more on their monthly energy bills.
